Metonymy
When one word or phrase is used as a substitute for another word of group of word, eg “Hollywood” for film industry or “sunshine state” for Florida, “Washington” for the government
Synecdoche
Also an instance of replacing one word or idea for another. Differs from Metonymy in that it’s using a part to represent a whole,using the less comprehensive to describe the more comprehensive.Eg “church” to describe congregation of “hired hands “ to describe workers . Also with a metonymy the word used doesn’t necessarily have any relation to the things it describes
sesquipedalian
A long difficult word, or a person with a fondness of sesquipedalian
