Chapter 1 Investigating Human biology Flashcards
What is the purpose of an controlled experiment?
The purpose is to investigate the relationship between variables.
Define ethics
Ethics are a set of morals principles and values.
What are the 5 ethics that satisfy an ethically sound investigation?
-Voluntary participation: participants should not be pressured into taking part of the investigation
-Informed consent: After all information of the investigation is given, written consent is sought after.
-Risk of harm: Risk of harm should be minimised.
-Confidentiality: The identities of the participants will not be revealed except to the people directly involved in the study.
-Anonymity: identities of the participants will not be revealed to anyone.
Define validity
Validity refers to when an experiment tests what it is suppose to test.
What improves validity?
Controlling more variables
Define accuracy
Accuracy refers to how close or true the results are in an experiment
What improves accuracy?
Using the right tools and equipment
Define reliability
Reliability refers to how similar the results are per trial
What improves reliability?
increasing the number of trials
Define qualitative and quantitative
Qualitative: Descriptive data
Quantitative: Numerical data
