To safely and successfully extricate a patient trapped in a vehicle, rescuers should be able to do all of the following:
> Assess the situation (perform size-up)
Make informed decisions about how to stabilize the situation (stop it from getting worse)
Devise and implement a plan of action that protects the rescuers and patients from further injury and results in all patients being freed from entrapment.
To be successful, vehicle and machinery extrication operations involve four incident priorities:
1) Personnel protection/Life safety
2) Incident stabilization
3) Property and environmental conservation
4) After action review (AAR)
