Bill of Rights

- may order people to do something
ex. pay taxes - may forbid people from doing something
ex. discrimination in employment
Federal Statutes
Laws passed by Congress and signed by the president
State and Local Statutes
passed by a state’s own legislature
- cannot conflict with the U.S constitution otherwise be ruled unconstitutional
Statutory Law
Laws that any governing body makes that is influenced by the constitution
Court Decisions
Make Decisions by :
- Common Law Tradition
- using precedents - Interpreting statutes
- I think I can apply the statutory law this way - Judicial Review
- change laws that conflict the constitution
Rule of Law
everybody is under the same law, no matter in what position you are, and provide justice and stability
Common Law
Everybody follows the same law throughout the country

Moral principles that a society follows
