- second oldest son
- elder brother arthur (prince of wales) learnt the art of government in wales
- henrys childhood was spent in Eltham Palace
- he was bought up by his sisters Margret and Mary under the supervision of his mother.

- Elder brother Arthur died of Tuberculosis.

- he was moves to the town court in Greenwich to be kept under supervision by his father having felt that he lost 5/8 children he couldnt risk it.
- athletic teen prince enjoyed hunting and and archery but his father banned him from the dangerous sport jousting. This angered Henry greatly!

- she had come to England before in 1501 from marrying his brother Arthur
- she was betrothed to Henry in 1503
- when they were married it strengthen an importance alliance with Spain.

- those who met the king found him friendly,affectionate and generous
- he was a true renaissance man

- he was deeply a religious man he attended church and gave to the poor on a daily basis
- he had a big ego and belived his opinions are the only thing that matter
- he belives he was appointed directly by God. this was called divine rights

- Henrys England was hierachical (which meant you were ranked in society based on your wealth and social status)

- they had a huge opportunity to influence the king on matter of policy

- provided guidance on policy aswell as handling routines matter of state
