Subtractive versus Additive
Subtractive and Additive is a technique for statue-making.
For example, carving is a subtractive technique because it is a reduction of its original mass.
In additive sculpture, the artist can build up forms by adding clay around the framework. Or something will be cast or poured in a mold.
Paleolithic
8000 BC
Humans create the first sculptures and paintings, long before the invention of writing. Works range in size from tiny figurines to huge life-size paintings on the wall.
Neolithic
2300 BC
Beginning of the agriculture and the formation of the earliest settled communities, first in Mesopotamia and then in Europe.
