Chapter 1 - Eukaryotic Cell Flashcards
How do proteins diffuse? Do they rotate?
Proteins diffuse laterally, don’t rotate due to hydrophillic/phobic regions, rotating is not energetically favoured.
What interactions would cause peripheral proteins to bind to integral membrane proteins?
Electrostatic interactions.
Not hydrophic, not van der waals, not covalent
What is the cell cycle?
IPMAT: interphase, prophase, metaphase, anaphase, telophase where interphase is G1, synthesis, G2
What is the role of centrioles
Centrioles produce microtubules needed for spindle fibres to attach to centromeres
What happens to newly synthesised molecules ready for cellular secretion?
Become encased in golgi apparatus ready for exocytosis
Define role of:
mitochondria
lysosomes
endoplasmic reticulum
mitochondria - produce energy through aerobic respiration
lysosomes - suicide sacs gets rid of diseased cells
ER: synthesis centre
