What are the 4 levels of EMT training and licensure in Emergency Medical Services?
Describe what each level can do.
EMR-basic emergency care prior to the arrival of the ambulance and operations training
EMT-basic emergency care and transportation of the sick and injured.
AEMT-more advanced care of starting IV’s, administering IV fluids, advanced airway management and some emergency
medications
Paramedic-advanced life support assessment, interpretation of heart rhythms, advanced airways and emergency medications
What is the American With Disabilities Act?
Legislation that is designed to protect people with disabilities from discrimination.
Describe the purpose of HIPAA- Health Insurance Portability and Accountability Act
Federal Legislation passed in 1996, it limits availability of patients health care information only to those who need to know for patient care and penalizes violation of the patients privacy.
What is the National EMS scope of practice?
Created by the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration, it outlines the skills performed by all levels of EMS providers.
What is the Primary service area?
The designated area for which the EMS agency is responsible for prehospital care and transportation to the hospital.
What is Medical Control in EMS?
Physician instructions directly by radio or cell phone or by written protocol/guidelines as authorized by the medical director of the service program.
What is Quality Control?
Oversite by the medical director to ensure the appropriate medical care standards are met by EMT’s on each call.
Describe Continuous Quality Improvement.
Continuous Quality Improvement is a process of evaluation of processes, performance and outcomes to improve the level of care, efficiency or outcomes.
Name some of the professional attributes of EMT’s.
Integrity, Empathy, Self-motivation, Appearance and Hygiene, Self-confidence, Time Management, Communications, Teamwork and Diplomacy, Respect, Patient Advocacy, Careful delivery of care.
What is the difference between Primary and Secondary prevention?
Primary prevention is efforts to prevent an injury or illness rom occurring.
Secondary prevention is efforts to limit effects of an injury or illness that you can not prevent.
