Chapter 1: Electrocardiography Flashcards
Auscultated blood pressure:
Listening to the blood pressure
Automatic External Defibrillator (AED):
Device that recognizes abnormal rhythm & determines whether it is considered a “shockable rhythm”
Body mechanics:
Using movements that maintain proper posture and avoid muscle and bone injury

Code Blue:
Immediate assistance
Coronary Artery Disease (CAD):
Narrowing of the arteries around the heart, causing a reduction of blood
Defibrillator:
Machine that produces and sends an electrical shock to the heart in attempt to correct the electrical pattern of the heart
Diastolic blood pressure:
The blood pressure measured when the heart relaxes; the minimum amount of pressure exerted against the vessel walls at all times
Dysrhythmia:
Abnormal heartbeat
ECG Monitor tech:
Person that has technical knowledge and skills to view and evaluate the electrical tracings of patients heart on a monitor
Electrocardiogram (ECG):
A tracing of the hearts electrical activity recorded by an electrocardiograph
Electrocardiograph:
An instrument used to record the electrical activity of the heart
Electrocardiograph (ECG) Tech:
Individual who has the technical knowledge & skills to record an ECG & prepare it for the physician
Ethics:
Standards of behavior and concepts of right and wrong; based on moral values
Healthcare providers:
Physicians & other medically trained personnel who are licensed by individual states to provide healthcare to patients

High blood pressure
Hypotension:
A lower- than- normal blood pressure that can cause reduction of blood flow to vital organs
Isolation precaution:
The second level of steps taken to prevent the spread of infection; used where a specific infection is known or suspected
Law:
Rule of conduct that is enforced by a controlling authority such as the government
Libel:
Writing defamatory words about someone; both illegal & unethical
