Chapter 1 - Digital Data <3 Flashcards
What is Data?
Data is raw, unorganized facts that need to be processed. Data has no meaning.
What is Information?
Information is when data is processed, organized, structured or presented in a given context so as to make it useful / meaningful.

What is Sample Rate?
Sample Rate is how many samples, or measurements, of an audio recording or sound per second. The more samples per second are taken, the more detail in the sound waves(higher quality).
What is Bit Rate?
Bit Rate of a file or an audio tells you how many bits can be processed per second. Bit rate is measured in kilobytes per second(kbps).
What is Bit Depth?
Bit depth is the number of bits available to store sound samples. High quality audio samples require high bit depth.
What is ADC?
ADC stands for Analogue to Digital Converter, which converts sound waves to digital waves that are easier for a computer to read. Frequency at which samples are measured in is Hertz (Hz).
What is a Pixel?
A pixel, usually a square, is the smallest unit of a digital image that can be displayed and edited on a computer screen.
What is Image Resolution?
The image resolution tells us the quality of an image, the more pixels the higher the quality and sharpness of the picture.
What is a Bitmap?
Bitmap is an image made up of individual bits where each bit represents one pixel.
What is a Vector?
Vector graphics are images that are completely described using mathematical definitions.
What is a Vector?
Vector graphics are images that are completely described using mathematical definitions.
What is Streaming?
It is a process that allows users to view videos on a website or app straight without downloading. Can watch in real time.
Advantages of streaming…
Instant access.
Storage savings .
Up to date content.
Disadvantages of streaming…
Need internet connection.
Data usage.
Limited offline access
