What is the definition of intellectual development?
The development of processes in the brain such as thought, knowledge and memory
What is the development of Emotional development?
The development of the full range of emotions and the optimal way of dealing and expressing them
What is the definition of social development?
The increasing complexity of behaviour patterns used in relationships with other people(VCAA)
What is a development milestone?
A significant skill or event occurring in a persons life eg. Learning to walk, getting a job, having children
Define Gross motor skills
The manipulation and coordination of large muscle groups such as those in arms and legs
Define fine motor skills
The manipulation or coordination of small muscle groups such as those in the hands and fingers
What is individual development?
The series of orderly predictable changes that occur from conception(birth) until death. Development can be Physical,Social,Emotional or Intellectual
What are physical traits?
Can be classified as primary or secondary sex characteristics or puberty during the age of youth
Define primary sex characteristics
Body parts directly involved in reproduction and form what are commonly referred to as ‘genitals’ and organs of reproduction
Define secondary sex characteristics
Traits arising from changes in both males and females at puberty. They are neither directly related to reproduction, nor present at birth
Define puberty
Biological changes that occur during youth and prepare the individual for sexual reproduction
Define youth
Roughly 12-18 years old, though classifications can differ
Define abstract thought processes
A complex thought process where the ideas are the focus rather than tangible objects eg “what would help the health of youth?”
Define a concrete thought process
A simple thought process that centres around objects and physical environment eg.”that is my pen.”
What is the definition of Physical development?
Changes to the body and it’s systems. This can be changes in size(growth) complexity( the increase complexity of of the nervous system) and motor skills(either gross or fine, eg. Learning to walk)
