What is a hypothesis?
A theory or speculation that can be tested.
What is a null hypothesis?
A specific type of hypothesis that states there is no statistical significance between two variables.
Theory
A tested and confirmed explanation for observations or phenomena.
Inductive reasoning
A form of logical thinking that uses related observations to arrive at a general conclusion.
Deductive reasoning
Type of logic used in hypothesis - based science.
Falsifiable
Experimental results can disprove it.
Control
Contains every feature of the experimental group except it is not given the manipulation that the researcher hypothesizes.
Variable
Is any part of the experiment that can vary or change during the experiment.
Basic science
Seeks to expand knowledge regardless of the short-term application of that knowledge.
Applied science
Aims to use science to solve real-world problems,making it possible, for example, to improve a crop yield, find a cure for a particular disease, or save animals threatened by a natural disaster.The problem is usually defined for the researcher.
