A
Germany was united and stopped being over 400 separate places but was now one country. It was governed by Kaiser Wilhelm the second during the 1 world war who was an agressive German Kaiser. In 1871 Germany also conquered Alsace Lorraine which annoyed France whom it had belonged to before.

Archduke Franz Ferdinand, the heir to the Austrian throne, was shot by Gavrilo Principe in Sarajevo.
