Chapter 1 Biology Flashcards
Characteristics of living things
- Growth
- Movement
- sensitivity
- excretion
- reproduction
- Nutrition
- respiration
Things that all characteristics of living things have in common
.Cytoplasm .cell membrane .DNA .Ribosomes .enzymes
DNA?
It is a chemical form which our chromosomes are made of
The DNA molecule is made out of strings of smaller molecule, containing four different bases they are called A,C,G,T
Characteristics of the animal cell
Multicellular
Have a nucleus but no cell wall or chloroplast
Feed on organic substances made by other living organisms
Characteristics of plant cell
Multicellular
Cells have a nucleus, cell walls made out of cellulose and often contain chloroplast
Feed on photosynthesis
May have roots,stems and leaves
Characteristics of fungi
Usually multicellular
Have a nuclei
Have cell walls not made of cellulose
Do not have chlorophyll
Feed on parasite nutrition
Charasteristics of protoctista
Multicellular or unicellular, cells have a nucleus, may or may not have a cell wall and chloroplasts, some feed by photosynthesis and some feed on organic substances
Characteristics of prokaryotes
Often unicellular, no nucleus, have cell walls that are not made of cellulose, have no mitochondria
Characteristics of ferns
Plants with roots stems and leaves, have leaves called fronds, do not produce flowers, reproduce by spores
