Chapter 1 : Anatomy and Basic Physiology Flashcards
What are the four main chambers of the heart?
Two Atria and Two Ventricles
Which ventricle empties into the pulmonary system?
Right Ventricle
Which ventricle empties into peripheral circulation?
Left Ventricle
How do you calculate cardiac output?
Stroke Volume x Heart Rate
What is the only electrical communication between the atria and the ventricles?
The AV node
What is the function of the AV node?
Slows the conduction of the impulse from the atria to the ventricles
What is the main pacemaker of the heart?
The SA node
Where does the SA node get its blood supply?
59% right coronary artery 38% left coronary artery 3% Both
What is the purpose of the internodal pathways?
Transmit the pacing impulse from the SA node to the AV node
What is the small tract of specialized cells that transmit the impulses through the interatrial septum?
Bachman Bundle
What is the largest vein in the heart?
Coronary Sinus
What supplies blood to the AV node?
Right Coronary Artery
What is the Bundle of His?
Starts at the AV node. Is the only Route of communication between the atria and the ventricles
What is the Left Bundle Branch? (LBB)
Begins at the end of the His Bundle and travels through the interventricular septum. It connects to a small set of fibers that innervate the upper segment of the interventricular septum.
What is the Right Bundle Branch? (RBB)
Starts at the His Bundle. Will innervate the RV and the right face of the interventricular septum.
