Chapter 1 Flashcards
Categorical Variable
places each case into one of several groups, or categories.
Quantitative variable
takes numerical values for which arithmetic use
Types of Categorical Variable graphs?
Pie Chart and Bar Graph
Types of Quantitative variable graphs?
Histogram and Stemplot
What do we look for in graphs?
Shape, Center and Spread. Sometimes outlier
What is mean?
The average of the whole data set
What is Median?
The midpoint value of the data set when arranged from smallest to greatest
What happens when distrubution is symettric
Mean and Median share close values
What happens in a skewed distribution?
The mean is usually farther out in the long tail than median
What is IQR Formula?
Q3 - Q1
What is 5 number summary?
Min Q1 M Q3 Maximum
What is a Quartile 1?
The median of observations located to the left of the primary median
When do we use Standard Deviation?
Measure spread of the mean and only when mean is used as a center point
Is ‘s’ resistant to outliers?
NO
Rules of the density curve?
Always above the horizontal axis and has an area of exactly 1
