Chapter 1-4 Flashcards
Directional Boring Machine
is a type of machine used to drill horizontally at relatively shallow depths for the placement of utility installations
Lineman
use Directional Boring machines to install conduit underground to provide power to traffic signals, street lighting, and other electrical devices
Main components of Bore Machine
Carriage Drill Frame Stabilizers Tracks Anchoring System Operators Station Pipe Loader Vice Wrenches
Electrical Strike System
a warning system designed to inform the boring operator an electrical strike has occurred. A Voltage Stake must be driven in the ground at a minimum of 6”ft away from boring machine
Danger Alerts
imminently hazardous situations if not avoided WILL cause death or serious injury
Warning Alerts
indicate potentially hazardous situation that if not avoided COULD result is death of serious injury
Caution Alerts
potentially hazardous situation if not avoided MAY cause minor or moderate injury or damage to equipment
Bend Limit
the maximum amount of bend allowed on a pipe before fail
Entry Pitch
is the angle of a boring machine frame in relation to the slope of the ground
Minimum setback
is the distance from an entry point to where a drilling pipe is horizontal during directional boring operations
Minimum Depth
is the distance between the ground level and where the drilling pipe is horizontal during directional boring operations
360 walk around inside compartment
Diesel Fuel Hydraulic Fluid Engine Coolant Engine Oil Battery - counter clockwise
Ditch Witch Controller name
Tethered Ground Drive Controller
Drill String
is a series of drill pipes, adapters, and other attachments that transfer drilling fluid and torque to a drill bit during boring operations
Anchoring System
is a device used to keep a boring machine in place while it is operating (stabilizers)
