Chapter 1+3 Vocab Flashcards
Percent uncertainty
Ratio of uncertainty over measured value multiplied by 100
Base quantity
Physical quantity that is the standard for all other quantities
Derived quantity
Physical quantity that can be defined in terms of the base quantity
Conversion factor
The value of one measurement expressed in a different set of units
Scalar
Quantity with no direction associated with it; specified by numbers and units
Vector
Quantity with magnitude and direction
Vector addition
The process of finding the sum of vectors
Vector subtraction
The process of finding the difference between vectors
Vector components
The sum of two other vectors that result in the original vector (x and y coordinates)
Estimated uncertainty
The approximation of inaccuracies within the result of a measurement
Ex) + or - .01cm
Resultant displacement
The magnitude of the arrow drawn from the tail of the first vector to the tip of the second vector
Resultant
Sum of vectors
Tip to tail method
To move a vector to so that they lie tip to tail
Components
Rectangular coordinate pairs that represent a vector
Resolving vectors
Process of finding vector components
