An area defined by people-based features.
Functional regions
An area defined by how it’s used.
Physical regions
An area defined by physical features.
Lines of Longitude
The invisible lines that run vertically around the earth used to find people or places.
Ex: prime meridean
Lines of latitude
The invisible lines that run horizontally around the earth that are used to find people or places.
Ex: equator
Relative location
The location of a place or region in relation to other places or regions.
Absolute location
The precise position of any point on the earth.
Equator
The most famous line of latitude, seperating the north and south hemisphere.
Prime meridean
The most famous line of longitude that seperates the west and south hemispheres.
Site
The original starting point of a place.
Drainage area (basin)
The area drained by a river system

Drainage divide
The line of high ground that seperates water flowing in one direction or the other.

Boundaries
The limits that are put on regions that define size and shapes.

Barrier
Something that makes it difficult to move.
Fault zone
An area of weakness in earth’s crust, often along plate boundries.
Migration
The movement of people from one place to another.
Plates
The large divisions of earth’s crust that floats or moves on the molten layer of material below it.
Pull factor
A force draws you to a place.
Ex: more modern conditions, better living conditions
