How do you compute the number of significant figures an answer will have when multiplying or dividing?
The answer contains the least number of sig figs from the products.
How do you compute the number of significant figures an answer will have when adding or subtracting?
The answer contains the same number of digits to the right of the decimal place of the smallest sig fig number.
What are the three rules to rounding?
- If the removed digit is less than 5, then the number kept remains unchanged.
- If the removed digit is a 5 followed by zeros or no digit, the number kept remains unchanged if its an even number, increase if its an odd number.
- If the removed digit is 5 or greater round up.
Define precision.
Refers to how close a series of measurements are to one another.
Define accuracy.
refers to how close the measurement is to the actual valeu.
