Respondents:
individuals who answer a survey
Subjects/Participants:
people on whom is experimented
Experimental Units
animals, plants, & inanimate subjects
Categorical/Qualitative Variable:
names categories & answers questions about how cases fall into those categories
Quantitative Variable:
a measured variable that answers questions about the quantity of what is being measured
Identifier Variables:
categorical variables with exactly 1 individual in each category
Frequency Table:
records the totals & the category names
Relative Frequency Tables:
similar, but gives the percentages for each category
Area Principle:
the area occupied by a part of the graph that should correspond to the magnitude of the value it represents
Bar Charts:
displays the distribution of a categorical variable, showing the counts for each category next to each other for easy comparison
Pie Chart:
when interested in parts of the whole, a pie chart might be your display of choice
Contingency Tables:
allows us to look at 2 categorical variables together
