What is perceptive listening?
listening to music attentively in an attempt to understand the musical processes and structure that give the music it’s characteristic qualities.
What is an oral tradition?
The passing down of music by word of mouth from one generation to the next.
What is a copyright law?
a law that gave composers, lyricists, and publishers became owners of a copyright that helped them make a profit from the royalties of the songs.
Ethnomusicologist
A study of music in culture, considering the considering the context of music in a society, music as it relates to human behavior, and the general attitudes of a people about their music.
Acoustics
the science of sounds and the physical basis of music.
What is a score?
A printed version of music. Refers to the version used by a conductor.
What is tempo?
The rate of speed at which the music is performed.
What is form?
the shape or structure of a piece of music. Patterns of contrast and repetition.
What is the register?
the highness or lowness of a tone produced by a single frequency.
What is notation?
The use of written or printed symbols to represent musical sounds.
What is a chord?
A meaningful combination of three or more tones.
What is a melody?
A succession of musical tones, usually of varying pitch and rhythm, that has identifiable shape and meaning.
What is a genre?
A category of music such as symphony, hymn, ballad, mass, march, and opera
What is a meter?
A meter is the organization of rhythm into a pattern of strong and weak beats.
