Chapter 1 Flashcards
Intro to Anatomy
What is the meaning of Anatomy
Structure of body parts
Gross Anatomy is the study of
larger structures
What is the meaning of physiology
Function of body parts
Define Homeostasis
Body’s tendency to make internal and external environments stable.
Levels of Organization
atoms, molecules, cells, tissue, organs, organ systems, organism
What are the seven Characteristics of Life
Organization, Metabolism, Responsiveness, Movement, Growth, Reproduction, Development
7 Characteristics of Life: Organization
- cells, tissues, organs, organelles cell membrane
- separate from each other
- allows smooth functioning
7 Characteristics of Life: Metabolism
reactions in body, requires energy
- consume nutrients
energy fuels movement, sustain body function, and maintain body structure
Types of Metabolism
Anabolism and Catabolism both combines make metabolism because simultaneous
Anabolism
smaller/ simple molecules combine to larger more complex substances
Catabolism (metabolism)
larger substances make smaller substances
What is needed for metabolic reactions?
ATP (adenosine triphosphate)
7 Characteristics of Life: Responsiveness
- sensing change and reacting to them
- adjusting to internal and external environments
7 Characteristics of Life: Movement
- change in position and motion of internal parts
Human movement includes:
joints, muscles and also organs, also blood cells and heart ect.
7 Characteristics of Life: Growth
increase in size
