What are the 4 D’s of Abnormality?

What is a mental disorder?
Psychological symptoms that reflect underlying psychological dysfunction of disability and not related to stress.
Mental Illness
A mental health condition that negatively affects a persons emotions, thinking, behavior, relationships, and overall functioning.
Psycopathology
The study of the symptoms, causes, and treatment of disorders
Anosgnosia
The inability to recognize one’s mental condition
Psychiatric Epidemiology
The study of frequency of occurrence of mental health disorders
Prevalence
The percentage of people that have a disorder in a given time
Social Stigma
A negative societal belief about a group that is believed to be different from other groups
Lifetime Prevalence
The rate of existence of the disorder during any part of a person’s lifetime
Self Stigma
When social stigma becomes so intense that it makes the person dislike themselves/ have negative thoughts about themselves.
Supernatural
Developing from origins beyond the visible observable universe.
Somatogenic
Developing from physical/ bodily origins.
Psychogenic
Developing from psychological origins.
Trephining
Involved drilling a hole in the skull to let out the evil spirits.
