Chapter 1 Flashcards
What MPLS stands for and what exactly is it?
Multi Protocol Label switching - It is a WAN technology protocol. It can work at the top other protocols in which it creates a virtual point to point link between two remote sites over the MPLS network. When the frame enters the MPLS network, it is tagged with some extra MPLS frame. It can also provide quality of Service for certain type of application data.
How do we remember the 7 layers of OSI model?
Please do not through sausage pizza away.
What is the functionality of transport layer?
It helps with initiating the connection between 2 devices. It uses the Syn, Sync-Ack, Ack process which is called 3 way handshake.
It also add its transport header to the data that it receives from application layer. Port number is one of the field in transport header.
It also segments the data with sequence numbers and provide data recovery.
How many sublayers does data link layer has and what are they?
MAC (Media Access control) and LLC (logical link control)
Define the most common types of RG ratings?
RG58 - 50 ohm
RG59 - 75 Ohm
RG6 - 75 Ohm - Most commonly used. It uses a F type connector that screws in.
Give the color criteria for TIA/EIA 568 A standard.
It goes from pin 1 to 8. Color coding is following - S/G, Green, S/O, Blue, S/Blue, Orange, S/Brown, brown
Give the color criteria for TIA / EIA 568 B standard.
S/Orange, Orange, S/Green, Blue, S/Blue, Green, S/Brown, Brown
What Cat rating cable does 10BaseT uses?
It can use CAT 3 cabling or better like Cat5, Cat5e and so on
What Cat rating cable does 100BaseT uses?
It can use CAT 5e cabling or better
What Cat rating cable does 1000BaseT uses?
It can use CAT 6 cabling or better
What Cat rating cable does 10GBaseT uses?
It can use CAT 6a cabling or CAT 7 which has all its wires in it that are shielded.
What fiber optic cabling consists of?
It has its core at the centre. Then comes the cladding part that reflects the light back to the core part. And then comes the cable Jacket.
What are the common colors that multimode and single mode fiber comes in?
Multimode - It usually comes in orange.
Single mode - It usually comes in Yellow.
What are the common types of fiber cable connectors?
SC, ST, FC, LC, MT-RJ
Describe SC connector.
It is an square connector which we just punch in and punch out.
Describe ST connector.
It a round connector. It uses F type connector that we insert and twist.
Describe FC fiber cable connector.
It is also a round connector. It uses a connector that we insert and screws in =.
Describe LC and MT-RJ fiber cable connector.
Both of these connectors are Small Form Factor. Both the receiving and sending part / wire are located in one condensed connector.
What are the common contacts types of Fiber optic cables?
PC (Physical contact), APC (Angled physical contact), UPC (Ultra Physical contact)
What are different types of cables in terms of fire rating?
PVC (Poly vinyl cable), Riser cable (That run between floors), Plenum cable
What kind of cable connector and language serial cables use?
RS232 language and DB9 connector.
Where do we use rollover cable (It is different from crossover) and what is its wiring pinout?
We use rollover cable to connect RS232 cable (DB connector) to a route console port. On one end wire pinouts 1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6, 7, 8 connects to wiring pinout 8, 7, 6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1
Define ethernet frame and their field sizes.
Pre-able (3 bytes), SFD (Start Frame delimited) (1 Byte), DA, SA, Type (2 Bytes), Data, FCS (4 bytes)
What is the value of type field for IPv4 packet in Ethernet header?
0x0800
