What does the beef industry provide?
Beef, leather, glue, dog food, replacement valves, lotions, chapstick, gelatin, etc.
Where are beef cow slaughter houses concentrated?
Mid- USA
What is a broiler?
Chicken raised for meat consumption.
What is a byproduct?
Something that is being produced as a result of the primary product.
What do we get from broilers?
Animal dry food and fertilizer from chicken poop.
Where are broiler slaughter houses found in the US?
In the southeast of the US.
Where are laying chickens found? Why?
All over the US because eggs need to be shipped to the store very quickly and directly from the laying farms.
What does the dairy industry provide?
Provides milk products- liquid milk, cheese, yogurt, ice cream, etc.
Where are the dairy farms concentrated?
In the Northeast and California.
What does the swine industry provide?
Pork products as well as medical products and everyday products like buttons.
Why can we get medical products from pigs?
Because they are closely related to humans.
Where are pigs concentrated?
Upper midwest and north carolina.
What is a terminal product?
A product where it involves the death of the animal.
What is a renewable product?
A product that can be collected multiple times without killing the animal e.g milk, eggs, and wool.
What type of meat is in the most demand? Why?
Broilers because they are more lean meats, and less expensive, and easier to raise.
