Hospital Standardization Program
the purpose is to raise the standards of surgery by establishing minimum quality standards for hospitals

Credential name changes
Registered Record Administrator (RRA) became Registered Health Information Administrator (RHIA).
Accredited Record Technician (ART) became Registered Health Information Technician (RHIT).
Information Governance
an organization-wide framework for managing information throughout its lifecycle and for supporting the organization’s strategy, operations, regulatory, legal, risk, and environmental requirements
Informatics
a field of study that focuses on the use of technology to improve access to, and utilization of, information
Data Analytics
the science of examining raw data with the purpose of drawing conclusions about that information
Data Use
the ability to use technology to collect, store, analyze, and manage information, including the ability to use data visualization methods
Code of Ethics
a statement of ethical principles regarding business practices and professional behaviors

Active Membership
open to all individuals interested in AHIMA’s purpose and willing to abide by the code of ethics
Premier Membership
provides all benefits of active membership plus unlimited recertification and discounts
Student Membership
includes any student who doesn’t have an AHIMA credential, hasn’t previously been an active member of AHIMA, and is formally enrolled in an accredited program. They can voice themselves but can’t vote
New Graduate Membership
student members who are recent graduates of an accredited program. Has all membership rights including voting
Emeritus Membership
AHIMA members who are 65 years or older to be a member at a reduced rate. Has all membership rights including voting
Global Membership
people who are interested in HIM but live outside the US
Group Membership
allows multiple individuals from organizations to join at one time. Students and business groups are eligible
New to AHIMA Membership
for those who have never been a member of AHIMA at a discounted rate for 2 years. Same benefits of an active membership
AHIMA Board of Directors
Govern the association. Set organizational strategy, maintain fiscal oversight, and act as trustees of the organization.
Engage
a community website managed by AHIMA members to communicate on HIM topics
House of Delegates (HOD)
governs the profession of health information management by providing a forum for membership & professional issues and establishing & maintain professional standards of the membership
Component State Associations (CSAs)
professional associations that support the mission and views of AHIMA in their state
Chief of Executive Officer (CEO)
given the authority and responsibility to operate AHIMA in all its activities, subject to the policies & directions of the Board of Directors
Continuing Education Units (CEUs)
individuals who hold any of AHIMA’s credentials must complete CEUs to maintain certification
Fellowship Program
a program of earned recognition for AHIMA members who have made significant and sustained contributions to the HIM profession. Must have a minimum of 10 years of continuous AHIMA membership & 10 years of full-time professional experience in HIM
Council of Excellence in Education (CEE)
brings together representatives of the HIM education, and stakeholders, including industry representatives, to address issues related to the future of the profession & HIM education
AHIMA Foundation
is separate from AHIMA but supports the AHIMA in several ways
Healthcare Information and Management Systems Society (HIMSS)
a not-for-profit organization that supports the information of health through the application of information & technology
Association for Healthcare Documentation Integrity (AHDI)
a professional organization dedicated to the capture of health data and documentation
National Cancer Registrars Association (NCRA)
