1914-1918 (The Great War), was the first modern global conflict. It involved Europe, parts of Canada, the United States, and many parts of Asia and Africa. The four main causes were nationalism, imperialism, militarism, and alliances.

A deep worldwide economic slump that lasted through the 1930’s. It caused hardship throughout the world.
Great Depresssion
A political system that stresses national strength, military might, and the belief that the state government is more important than individuals.
Fascism
An economic and political system in which the state, run by a communist party, takes over industry and controls most organizations.

A long period of hostility between the Soviet Union and democratic West
Cold War
A US recovery plan that offered money to help European countries recover from the War, This money helped Western Europe rebuild.
Marshall Plan
The Wall built by the East Germans around West Berlin to help prevent escapes. This wall symbolized Cold War divisions.
Berlin Wall
An economic and political partnership leading towards an unified Europe.
