Why Study a Society?
What’s a society?
a group of people with a set of traditions and values in a particular location.
What’s a social structure?
it’s the organized way members of a society interact with each other.
It helps to regulate and achieve societal goals.
List and explain 3 Elements of Social Structure:
1- Culture: the values and norms of a society.
2- Social Class: the classification of people based on their economic and social value.
3- Roles: the expected responsibilities and behaviors from certain people.
what are the 3 oldest forms of social organization?
1- Family.
2- Kinship: includes extended family and lineage.
3- Voluntary Associations: beyond family ties and based on common interest.
Why do human beings need to gather in social groups?
social groups add value to our lives by enabling the sharing of knowledge and experiences among people.
What is a Coherent Group/Society?
a unified and “glued” society.
What are some main features of a coherent society? (List 3)
- Equal Participation.
- Equal Opportunities.
- Good Education.
