What is FARs?
The Federal Aviation Regulations; provides rules which apply to all areas of aviation. Including flight operations, construction of aircraft, and training requirements which must be met to obtain pilot certificates and ratings.
What is an FBO.
Fixed Base Operations, some have training schools, provide a wide variety of services to pilots; including aircraft rental, fueling, maintenance, parking, and sale of pilot supplies.
What are the two types of pilot training schools?
FAA approved schools governed by FAR part 141 and by part 61.
What is important about a syllabus?
Provides structure to pilot training by organizing flight and ground lessons.
Requirements for eligibility of a student pilot certificate.
Must be 16 years of age, be able to read speak and understand the English language, and hold a third class medical certificate.
What are the classes of medical certificates?
- First class medical, which is designed for the airline transport pilot
- Second class medical, which is required for the commercial pilot
3 third class medical, which is for student, recreational, and private pilots
Eligibility of private pilot certificate.
Need to hold student pilot requirements first, 17years of age complete specific training and flight time requirements described in the FARs, pass a knowledge test, and successfully complete a practical test which consists of oral quizzing, performing pilot operations and executing maneuvers in the airplane.
What are the phases of private pilot training?
- Pre-solo
- Cross country
- Practical test prep
Each phase includes both flight and ground training.
What is a pilot?
A person who is in command of and has direct responsibility and is the final authority as to the operation of that aircraft. Also know as PIC for short.
What categories are organized for pilot certification?
Class, and type. Your private pilot certificate will state the category class and type (if appropriate) of aircraft which you can fly.
As a pilot how often must you complete a review flight?
Every 24 calendar months.
How to act as pilot in command while carrying passengers?
Must have performed three take offs and landing in an aircraft of the same category and class within the preceding 90 days.
What is the FAA?
The Federal Aviation Administration, the agency that governs commercial and general aviation.
