Create ‘known good’ check points in your system configurations, so in the event you need to recover to a prior instance- you can. Helps with misconfigurations and recovering from it.

New Drivers that have been installed and this causes problems. Or a driver update has caused problems in your system.
When would you use Safe Mode Boot

When a problem exist and in the course of troubleshooting it, you use the minimum services to boot with to isolate the problem. Safe boot ‘temporary disables’ services or application.
When would you use Startup Repair Tool

When the computer will not boot in Safe Mode. Your start up configuration has been corrupted and need to be replaces/repaired. This does NOT help with hardware errors (ie- HHD failure).
When would you use Event Viewer?

When you ‘suspect’ a problem, Evnt Viewr can be booted in Normal -or- Safe mode to examine logs and look for hints of where the problem many be, in the System , Application, Security log files.
What information can you learn from examining the Ntbtlog.txt file?

When the system boots, you can see what drivers and locations of drivers that are loaded at the time of boot-up. You can also determine if something is loading up-during bootup- that could cause harm to your system or network.

Offten, when a pre-built computer is purchased, the ‘System’ has been backed up and can be accessed to restore factory settings. Where can this be found, if no CD/DVD’s came with the system?
