Chap12.1,12.2,12.3 Flashcards
Why do chemists use balanced chemical equations?
Because they show how much reactant is needed or how much product will be made( it shows a ratio)
Calculating chemical quantities is called..?
STOICHIOMETRY.
What are mole ratios used for?
They’re used to convert between any reactant or product to a different reactant or product on the SAME. Balanced chemical equation.
Steps of conversion.( mole to mole)
1-write given!
2-write; X…
3-write appropriate mole ratio.
What’s a theoretical yield?
A theoretical yield is what, after mole to mole or mass to mass calculations, tells you how much product you’ll theoretically obtain.
How do we calculate the percent yield?
We take the theoretical yield and actual yield and divide them, then multiply by a 100.
What’s kinetic energy?
It’s the energy of motion that molecules posses.
The kinetic theory
Gases are tiny, hard Spheres, with insignificant volume.
Gases move in fast, straight lines and are alwaaays moving.
Gases bump into each other via elastic collisions,( they bounce off each other without any loss of kinetic energy.
Different liquids have different physical properties( boiling point, freezing point, etc.) it’s based on two things;
Their own disruptive motion and their attractiveness to themselves.
What’s a barometer?
It’s a device used to measure atmospheric pressure. ( of gases)
