Flat character
Used for comic purpose
It’s a minor character
Used to represent stereotype and generalisation
Round character
Has various characteristics+traits
Readers see more than one side of a round character
-a rounded character is anyone who has a complex personality
Dynamic character
Who changes significantly during the course of the story
Static character
Is someone who does not change over time
Stereotype character
-a stock
Who is characterised by membership to a recognizable group
-a stock characters is defined by one exaggerated trait.
Antagonist
Is a bad guy who has a conflict with the protagonist
Protagonist
Is the main character wha created the action of the plot and engages reader
Is a hero or a heroine of the story
Characterization
It’s a literary device that is used in literature to highlight and explain the details about a character in a story.
Types of characterization
- Direct or explicit characterization
- indirect or implicit characterization
Direct or explicit characterization
It takes a direct approach towards building the character.
Indirect or implicit characterization
It’s a subtle way of introducing the character to the reader.
Characterization
- names and titles
- physical appearance and clothing
- character’s speech (tone, ability to communicate)
- character’s thoughts (inner dialog)
