What is thermal processes of energy transfer?
Process that transfer energy between regions of different temperature
What is heating?
Process of energy transfer due to temperature difference
When does thermal process end?
When both bodies reach the same temperature (thermal equilibrium)
What does conduction means?
Transfers energy to collision of particles in non metals and movement of electrons in metals
Why can metal conducts energy much faster than non metals?
Due to the presence of free electrons
What does convection means?
Process where energy is transferred by convection currents due to difference in density in different regions of the fluid.
What is radiation?
transfer of energy through electromagnetic waves without the need for particles to carry the energy
What is the characteristics of a higher rate of emission/absorption?
dark (colour), rough, matt (texture), higher temperature, larger area
What is the characteristics of a lower rate of emission/absorption?
light (colour), shiny, smooth (texture), lower temperature, smaller area
