- cmds: WinRM: enables remote server to listen and respond to WinRS requests
WinRS: executed on the local comp to allow admin to execute any cmd-line cmds against remote server

- enables admin to remotely manage roles and features in wdws from a comp that is running wdws 7 and above
- supported on professional or enterprise editions of the wdws client OS
- provide access to a full suite of tools on wdws server w all of the roles and features installed

- enable remote mgmt of multiple servers from a workstation
- reduce licensing costs by eliminating need to install wdws server on the comp used to manage servers

A
- client comp must be running the specific OS version
- server manager on wdws client can be used only for managing remote servers, not local comp

remote desktop for administration
A
- default implementation of Remote Desktop Services (RDS) on a wdws server
- allows 2 admins to be remotely logged in onto a server concurrently to perform remote administration
- use Remote Desktop Protocol (RDP)
- accessed via remote desktop connection/remote desktop/using the mstsc.exe
