Chap 2 test Flashcards
what is a force
a push or pull
What is gravity
the force that pulls objects towards earth
What does a strength of an objects gravitational force depend
mass and distance
what is the metric unit for measuring weight
Newtons
What is the measure of the force of gravity on an object.
weight
whats is the difference between mass and weight
Mass is how much stuff is in an object and weight is the measure of the force of gravity on an object
Where is the place on earth that you would weigh the least
on mt. everest
What is the metric unit of measuring weight
newtons
How does gravity affect the weight of an object
The stronger the gravity the greater the weight
If a bag of feathers has the same mass as a bag of gold what can you infer about the bag of feathers
The bag of feathers is larger than the bag of gold.
What was Aristotles theory on the rate of which an objects fall and how did Galileo disprove it
Aristotles theory was the heavier object falls faster Galileo disproved it by dropping two different sized cannon balls of thw leaning tower of pisa at the same time and they both fell at the same time
What did sir issac newton discover in 1665 about the force that keeps earth in its orbit.
That it was the same force that caused objects to fall at the same rate
Does an object accerlerate when falling to earth
yes because it is speeding up
If a astronaut dropped a hammer on earth and on the moon witch one one would hit the ground first.
the one on the earth because the force of gravity is greater
if a feather and hammer was dropped on earth at the same time would they hit the ground at the same time
no because the feather has more surface area and air resistance would cause it to drift back and forth
