Lords lived in giant, wood castles that towered over their manors
What was feudalism based on?
Feudalism was based on a series of promises between lords and vassals
Was equipment/weapons for the Knights cheap?
The equipment and weapons that nights needed was not cheap so they were an expensive form of hired protection
Were the Frankish kings able to repel the attacks in the 800s?
When the Vikings Magyars and Muslims raid Europe in the 1800s strong Frankish kings were unable to repeal the attacks defeating their empire
Where had Feudalism been long established?
Feudalism had already been long established in Britain before William the Conqueror arrived from France, defeated the English at the Battle of Hastings, and took over control of England
We’re Knights able to work their own land?
Knights were rarely able to work their own land so they needed others to work it for them
What were serfs?
Serfs were manor workers that were tied to the land on which they lived
What happens over time to Europe’s population
Over time, Europe’s population began to increase and, with it, so did trade, causing towns and cities to start growing, money to become important again, and slowly bringing an end to the feudal system
How were manors run?
Peasants worked and lived on the manor
