Chap 16 Adaptive Immunity Flashcards
Cytokines are
Proteins that signal if leukocyte are needed for particular antigen
Interleukins are
Are one of the cytokines that will signal to leukocytes
Interferons is
Another type of cytokine that will signal if there is a viral infection present
Growth factors will
(Proteins) stimulate leukocyte stem cells to divide that the body will have plenty of lymphocytes for adaptive immune response
(TNF) Tumor necrosis factor will
Have macrophages and T cells kill tumor cells and help regulate immune responses and inflammation
Chemokines will
Signal leukocytes to move towards sites of inflammation or infection or they can move between tissues
Autoantigens are
Antigenic molecules that are made from normal cell processes
Immune cells that treat autos as foreign invaders are eliminated in a process called self tolerance
This prevents autoimmune diseases from forming
