CHAP 13 Flashcards
What are the four major brain regions?
CEREBRUM, CEREBELLUM, BRAIN STEM, DIENCEPHALON
Function of frontal lobe?
HAS PRECENTRAL GYRUS WHICH CONTROLS VOLUNTARY MOVEMENT; PERSONALITY; CONCENTRATION; VERBAL COMMUNICATION; PLANNING & DECISION MAKING
Function of parietal lobe?
SOMATOSENSORY CORTEX WHICH CONTROLS SENSORY OF TOUCH
Function of temporal lobe?
HEARING AND SMELL
Function of occipital lobe?
vision
Function of insula lobe?
SMALL AND DEEP TO THE TEMPORAL LOBE; CONTROLS MEMORY AND TASTE
What are some basic functions of the brainstem?
BREATHING & BLOOD PRESSURE
PIA MATER:
AREOLAR CT; FOLLOWS EVERY CONTURE OF THE BRAIN.
ARACHNOID MATER:
RESEMBLES SPIDER WEB; COLLAGEN AND ELASTIC FIBERS—ARACHNOID TRABECULAE; BELOW IT IS THE SUBARACHNOID SPACE WHERE CSF IS
DURA MATER:
DENSE IRREGULAR CT; STRONGEST OF MENINGES; MENINGEAL LAYER, DEEPER LAYER, AND PERIOSTEAL LAYER, SUPERFICIAL LAYER
What do ventricles contain?
CSF fluid and ependymal cells
Name the ventricles.
lateral ventricles, third ventricle, and fourth ventricle
Specific structure that produces CSF (it is made of capillaries + ependymal cells):
CHOROID PLEXUS
Know the embryonic structure that develops into the CNS.
ECTODERM
