Chap 1 Theories and principles of learning and behavior Flashcards
What is another word for conditioning ?
Conditioning is another word for learning
What is US and UR give ?
An unconditioned response
What is another phrase related to a scientist that is used to describe classical conditioning ?
Pavlovian
What is another name for a stimulus response relationship ?
Reflex
What does an unconditioned reflex involve ?
An unconditioned reflex is involves a unconditioned stimulus including an unconditioned response
What is the nature of Unconditioned reflexes ? Display your answer in abbreviated form
An unconditioned reflex consists of an unconditioned stimulus and an unconditioned response UR = US + UR
What does a conditioned reflex consist of ?
A conditioned reflex consists of a conditioned stimulus and conditioned response
What is another name for an unconditioned response ?
AN unconditioned response is another name learning
What is the make up of classical conditioning as a make up ?
A neutral stimulus is paired with an unconditioned stimulus which gives a conditioned response therefore the coniditioned stimulus becomes a conditioned response to the uncondioned stimulus
What are the five methods of Classical conditioning?
Delay conditioning, trace conditioning, temporal conditioning, simultaneous Conditioning, backward conditioning
What is delay conditioning
Delay conditioning is the delay and OVERLAP of the conditioned stimulus shortly after wards - by up to .5 of a second before the meat powder. The CS signals the oncoming of the meat powder -thus is contingent
What is trace conditioning?
Trace conditioning is like delay conditioning, except there is no overlap between the CS and the US
what is temporal conditioning
Temporal Conditioning is when a stimulus is presented at the same time every day , for example when the conditioning is presented at noon
what is simultaneous conditioning?
Simultaneous Conditioning is when the NS and US are presented at the same time, however there is conditioning as the US is not contingent on the US.
What is backward conditioning?
Backward conditioning is when the US is presented before the NS, thus there is no contingency on the NS , and thus no learning
