Applied ethics
The study of what is right and wrong pertaining to a specific profession or subject
Discretion
The authority to make a decision between two or more choices
Duties
Required behaviors or action i.e. responsibilities that are attached to a specific role
Ethical dilemmas
Situation in which it is difficult to make a decision either right course of action not clear/carries some negative consequences
Ethical issues
Difficult social questions that include controversy over the right thing to do
Imperfect duties
Moral duties that are not fully explicated or detailed
Meta-ethics
The discipline of investigating the meaning of ethical terms, including a critical study of how ethical statements can be verified
Morals
Principles of right and wrong
Normative ethics
What people ought to do; define moral duties
Public servant
Professionals who are paid by the public and whose jobs entail pursuing the public good
Superogatories
Actions that are commendable but not required in order for a person to be considered moral
Values
Judgement of desirability, worth or importance
Wholesight
Exploring issues with one’s heart as well as one’s mind
