Factor
One of the things that affects an event, decision, or situation
Flow
A form of linkage between one component and another that usually involves the movement of people, ideas, money or resources
Analyse
Break down the content of a topic, or issue, info it’s constituent elements in order to provide an in-depth account and convey understanding of it
Infrastructure
The basic systems and services, such as transport and power supplies, that a country or organisation uses in order to work effectively
Conflict
A state of disagreements caused by the perceived or actual opposition of needs, values, and interests between people. Geographically if is often about opposing biers about the ways in which a place may be developed or used. The result is negative tension between the parties involved
Quantitative data
Data that can be quantified and verified, and is amenable to statistical manipulation
Qualitative data
Information that is non-numerical and is used in a relatively unstructured and open-ended way. It is based on opinion. It is descriptive information, which often comes from interviews, focus groups or artistic depictions such as photographs
First space representation
This means an attempt to understand a place in terms of quantitative analysis, looking at what is physically present in a place, and is empirically measurable (e.g. demographic data and socio-economic data)
Second space representation
These are subjective accounts of personal experience and capture a sense of place in a way that first space accounts cannot
Third space representation
One of the most useful ways to understand a place is to consider both quantitative and qualitative date, or third space representations. In this way we build a rich image of what a place is like and how it is experience and perceived.
