What is an insider perspective?
Someone who has a lived experience in a place
What is an outsider perspective?
Someone who knows the place from the outside, but does not have a lived experience in this place.
What is meant by socio spatial exclusion?
Socio spatial exclusion refers to when the character and inequalities of a place result in a certain group being excluded from using the place.
Examples of socio spatial exclusion
Race minorities in rural areas
Homeless people
What is a near place?
A place that is near to us. This can be through simply being close geographically, or close emotionally.
What is a far place?
A place that is far from us. This can be through simply being far geographically, or having no emotional connection.
What does character of place mean?
Character of place is conveyed by assemblages of distinctive place features that collectively give places their unique identities.
What is an endogenous factor?
An endogenous factor is a characteristic of a place itself, or factors which have originated internally.
What is an exogenous factor?
Exogenous factors are external influences on a place’s identity. They are caused by a place’s relationship with other places.

Exogenous factors contributing to the character of places
People - migrants or workers come from outside a place to live or work
Capital - Investment from a business based outside the area
Resources - raw materials transport infrastructure
Ideas - urban planners, architects, businesses and artists may bring ideas to shape and change a place

Meaning relates to the individual or collective perspectives of a place.
What is topography?
Topography is the arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area.
