How did the Nazis use the newspapers for propaganda?
They took over all the newspapers and shut down any that were Jewish.
How were rallies used in the Nazi propaganda campaign?
They were held in stadia to give off the impression of power and unity. People came from all over to see the spectacle and were fed ideology while they were there.
How were books used in the Nazi propaganda campaign?
All books were censored to have Nazi-slanted themes. Any books deemed to be anti-Nazi were burned.

- Radio stations were taken over by the government.
* Cheap radios were produced. By 1939 70% of Germans had one.

- Government controlled.

What were the SS?
The SS were Hitler’s personal aryan guard. They were used to make sure people were doing what the Nazis wanted.
What were concentration camps?
They were built to contain any opposition. Internees were used for slave labour.
What were the Gestapo?
A top-secret police force with access to any information they wanted.
How were the police and courts used in Himmler’s terror campaign?
They were made up entirely of Nazis. People were charged with bogus crimes like being a “habitual criminal.”
What were informers?
Informers monitored their neighbours’ activity to make sure they were strictly nationalist. If not, the informer would report you which could get you fired and faced public humiliation.
What was the New Plan?
The New Plan was an economic plan put forward by Hjalmar Schachg in 1933. It involved building strong links with developing economies, building new roads and limiting imports. It did not include rearmament though which resulted in him falling out with Hitler and getting sacked in 1936.
What was The Secret Plan?
The Secret Plan was an economic plan put forward by Hermann Goering in 1936 which focused on preparing for war. The economy depended on invading other territories and seizing their resources in order to fund further rearmament.
What was the National Labour Front?
The National Labour front gave all 18-to-25 year olds 6 months work experience. Everything was provided for them and often involved public works projects.
What was the DAF?
The German Workers’ Front (DAF) replaced all the trade unions. It monitored workers’ hours and helped improve their working standards and quality of life.
What was the KDF?
Strength Through Joy (KDF) filled the workers’ time and rewarded hard workers. The top price ledge was a trip on the KDF cruise liner.
Describe the Nazi education programme.
- 15% of time spent doing PE.
- RS discontinued
- Biology centred on race and population control.
- History only focused on Nazis.
- Had to be good at boxing or faced expulsion.
What was eugenics?
A special lesson exclusively for girls on how to produce Aryan babies.
What was the HJ?
The Hitler Youth (HJ) which was like scouts but involved Nazis ideals. Activities included camping trips, parades, cinema trips and firearms training.
Was the HJ popular?
Yes. When it was made compulsory in 1939 it already had 7.3 million members. A lot of people liked it because it gave them something to do and was an adventure.
