changing climate (science reviewer 3rdquarter) Flashcards
What are the factors affecting climate
- Altitude
- Latitude
3.Topography
4.Global wind Patterns
The height of an area above sea level.
Altitude
The location of a place with the equator as a reference point.
Latitude.
the arrangement of the natural and artificial physical features of an area, including the land and water features present in a region.
Topography
the places just above and below the equator.
Equatorial Region
The places beyond the topic regions.
Temperate regions
Places at the topmost and bottommost part of the earth where the sun’s heat is at its lowest angles passing through a thicker layer of atmosphere.
Polar Regions in the Artic Circle
3 Northern hemisphere
a. northern polar easterlies
- northern polar front
b. prevailing westerlies
- horse latitude
c. Northeast trade winds
3 southern
a. southern polar easterlies
-southern polar front
b. southern westerlies
- variables of Capricorn
c. southeast trade winds
are unusual occurrences that pertaining to worldwide climate conditions.
Global Climate Phenomenon
List global climate phenomenon
- Enso
2.Drought
3.Global warming
4.Climate change
A natural earth process wherein certian gasses in the atmosphere called (blank) traps the escaping heat from the earth and radiates it back to the earth’s surface.
Greenhouse effect
The gradual increase in global temperatures caused by the emission of gasses that trap the sun’s heat in the earth’s atmosphere.
Global warming
insufficiency of precipitation for a long period of time which may last for months or one season.
Drought
The coherent and sometimes very strong year-to year variations in sea-surface temperatures ,convective rainfall, surface air pressure, and atmospheric circulation that occur across the equatorial Pacific Ocean.
ENSO
the above- averages sea surfaces temperetures that periodically develop across the east-central equatorial PacifIc.
El Nino (ennye yung n sa gitna)
Theperiodic cooling of sea-surface temperatures that perodically develop across the east-central equatorial.
La Nina (ennye yung n na sa gitna)
