Raw materials
Raw material sources often become exhausted, so manufacturer changes location (e.g in different country)
New technology
- Mechanisation in agriculture and manufacturing has reduced demand for labour (1st redundancy in agriculture, then redundancy in industry, so move onto tertiary sector
Cause rise in quaternary sector and created new industries that provide jobs (eg aerospace, robotics, ICT and phones)
Easier to move goods more quickly and cheaply. Communication advances helps transfer info easily, so made world better connected - globalisation
Globalisation
Process by which countries in the world are drawn together by one single economy - advances in transport and communication. So all places can concentrate on their economic strengths. so a country may not focus on other sectors due to globalisation (Kenya - fruits)
Government policies
Government may motivate and encourage a particular sector in the economy - e.g. in china efforts to expand secondary sector
Demographic and social change
Increase in population - increases demand for food, services and manufactured appliances. So will boost all economic sectors to different degrees. More labour = encourage growth of activities with high labour
OR
People may earn more money, so more disposable income to spend on services. Increases demand for tertiary sector and creates more jobs in it
