Changes in energy stores Flashcards
How is energy transferred?
Heating, waves, electrical currents or when a force moves an object.
What do chemical energy stores include?
Fuels, foods, or chemicals found in batteries.
Energy is stored in..
Chemical energy, kinetic energy, gravitational potential energy, elastic potential energy and thermal energy.
When dropping an object it will?
Its gravitational potential energy will decrease, kinetic energy will increase and there will be a heat and sound on impact.
When an object falls it will?
Speed up as it falls.
When an object hits the floor without bouncing back its?
Kinetic energy store decreases. Some or all of its energy is transferred to its surroundings.
What is a kinetic store?
The energy stored by an objects movement.
What is a gravitational potential store?
The energy stored in objects raised above the earths surface. This energy exists because of the earths gravitational field.
What is a chemical store?
The energy stored by the chemical bonds between atoms.
What is an elastic potential store?
The energy stored when an object is being stretched, compressed or squashed.
What is a nuclear store?
The energy stored in the nucleus of an atom. The energy in the nuclear store can be released by radioactive decay.
