Change Management Flashcards
Define 4 types of change management and give examples of these relevant to a tunnelling project.
Radical Change - Changing shaft sinking method half way through from caisson sinking to underpinning because of ground conditions
Anticipated Change - Knowing you may encounter sand lenses in the drive
Gradual Change - Gradually reducing the amount of tunnelling done each day
Elective change - Making an informed design change decision
What are the direct and indirect effects of change?
Direct: Addition/deletion of work, rework, time lost, cost, specification change, revisions, demolition of work done
Indirect: Administration of change, disputes, loss of productivity, morale of work force, change in cash flow, loss of earnings
How does the industry deal with change?
No widely accepted standard, provisions within contracts, apportion risk, forms of contract, value engineering, dispute resolution
What are some cultural factors associated with change management?
‘Not the way it’s been done before’
Lengthy processes inherent in glbal industries
Numerous standards
Ignorance and education
Contractors new to industry sectors not aware of constraints
