Top managers identify the need for change, decide what to do then quickly introduce the change
Bottom-Up Change
Involves gradual consultations with managers & employees at all levels of the organization
Lewin’s 3-Stage Model
- Unfreezing the Status Quo
- Move to a new state
- Refreeze the new change to make it permanent
Evaluating Change
Benchmarking: Comparing performance on specific dimensions w/ the performance of other high-performing organizations to determine success of change effort
Driving vs Restraining Forces
Driving Forces: Direct behaviour away from the status quo
- Strengthening: Adding rewards, encouraging active participation
Restraining Forces: Hinder movement from the existing equilibrium
- Due to fear & doubt
- Weakening: Foster a space space where people feel encouraged to share new ideas
