Vintage BrutVintage Brut Rosé

* Only made from Grand Crus

* Only produced in the “Finest of Vintages”

* Name is an homage to King Louis XV who decreed that Champagne could be marketed and transported in bottles in 1728. This allowed the second fermentation to take place in the bottle.

Les Folies de la Marquetterie (NV)

* Typical Blend:

* First Released 2006…(?)

This single-vineyard cuvée is produced exclusively from grapes grown at Les Folies, a Taittinger-owned vineyard with a south/southwest exposure in the heart of the Champagne winegrowing region. A green harvest ensures that the final harvest has optimum sweetness and aromatic maturity. Only wines from the first pressing are used and each plot is vinified in small volumes, with certain lots in large, old oak casks. Slow aging for five years in bottles brings the flavors of this Champagne to perfect harmony.

Sendrée has an interesting history. A ferocious fire hit the Urville in the 1850s reducing the trees and shrubs to cinders. Afterwards the Drappiers planted a vineyard on the raised sloped above the village that became known as Les Cendrées (The Cinders).

The family did not start bottling vintages from the Grande Sendrée until 1974 by which time an error had been made in the registration of the title of the vineyard replacing the “c” for and “s”.

First Vintage 1935

  • *From Rare Wine**:
  • Until Krug’s Clos des Mesnil was first made in 1979, Clos des Goisses was the region’s only great single-vineyard wine. From its first vintage in 1935, it was not only unchallenged as the beacon of terroir in Champagne. It was the sole argument that great Champagne could be made from a single site, rather than a blend of vineyards has had been done for centuries in the region.

No other Champagne vineyard can match its gifts: an unbroken 30 to 45 degree, fully south facing slope of pure chalk backed by a small plateau directly above the Marne River. In warm years the plateau assures balance; in cool years the steep southern slope guarantees ripeness.

Even today, the respected American Champagne writer Peter Liem calls Clos des Goisses “arguably the greatest vineyard site in all of Champagne.” British Champagne expert Tom Stevenson says that “there can be no doubt that Clos des Goisses boasts the most climatically distinct, naturally occurring and expressive terroir in Champagne.”

First Released 2006…(?)
